Ashta-koota is the traditional Vedic compatibility system that evaluates eight factors between two birth charts: Varna (1 point), Vashya (2 points), Tara (3 points), Yoni (4 points), Graha Maitri (5 points), Gana (6 points), Bhakoot (7 points), and Nadi (8 points), totaling 36 points. Each factor assesses a different dimension of compatibility—from spiritual and ego harmony (Varna) to health and genetic compatibility (Nadi). The system works by comparing the Moon Nakshatras of both individuals and calculating points based on their relationships. A score of 18+ out of 36 is generally considered acceptable for marriage, with higher scores indicating greater natural harmony.

Name-based matching uses numerological principles and can provide interesting general insights, but it is significantly less accurate than Kundali matching. Names can change, spellings vary, and the system doesn't account for the precise astronomical configurations at birth that truly define a person's cosmic signature. We offer name matching as a quick, fun tool when birth details aren't available, but for any serious relationship decision—especially marriage—full Kundali matching is strongly recommended. Think of name matching as a conversation starter, not a decision-maker.

For accurate full Kundali matching, you need the following for BOTH individuals: Date of birth (day, month, year), Time of birth (as precise as possible—check birth certificates or hospital records), and Place of birth (city or town name). The birth time is particularly crucial as it determines the Ascendant and house positions, which affect several Kootas. If exact birth time is unknown, an approximate time is still better than no time—the Moon sign and Nakshatra can usually be determined with reasonable accuracy even with approximate times, though some Kootas may be less precise.

Mangal Dosha (being 'Manglik') occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Ascendant, Moon, or Venus. It's present in roughly 40-50% of all charts, so it's quite common! The concern is that Mars' aggressive energy in these relationship-sensitive houses may create conflict or challenges in marriage. However, many cancellation factors exist: Mars in own sign, Mars aspected by Jupiter, Mars in certain Nakshatras, age over 28, or both partners having the Dosha. Don't panic if you have Mangal Dosha—get a proper analysis of whether it's cancelled and what remedies, if any, are appropriate.
